STNAs Are Our Backbone
June 29, 2023
Would you be able to guess what the backbone of our operations is here at Arlington Care Center? If you guessed STNAs, you're right! Our State Tested Nursing Assistants not only make sure the residents stay clean and get to meals and activities, but they are also an extra set of eyes and ears for our residents. STNAs know more about the residents than anyone else in the building, and sometimes even know more than the resident’s family members. Not only are they caretakers, but they are also a confidant for our residents. STNAs are one of the first staff members that new residents meet and are often the ones holding their hands when they pass. They spend so much time with the residents that they build great relationships and become like family.
STNAs have an incredibly physical and emotional job. They need to be strong enough to lift residents to bed, but gentle enough not to wake them in the night while repositioning them. They provide comfort not only to the residents but to their family members too. Families need to know that when they aren't able to be there, their loved ones are being cared for, not only physically but emotionally. STNAs empathize and sympathize. They hold hands, give hugs and wipe tears. They are truly angels in disguise and are often overlooked.
June 15-21, we celebrated our STNAs, even though they deserve much more than a week of treats, luncheons and gifts. They are the backbone of every facility. They have a thankless job, so please take time to thank them whether you are another employee, visitor or a family member. To all Arlington Care Center STNAs, we appreciate everything you do and could not do it without you!
