Cooking For Christmas Cheer!
December 10th, 2023Our recently formed cooking club has been making waves in their short time as a club. From making cookies, holding a bake sale, making chili cheese fries, and gingerbread houses, and creating a cookbook, they have stayed busy and active in the facility. Their cookbook has become a point of pride. Recipes ranging from potato soup to peanut butter fudge, there was a little something from everyone, for everyone.
Our activity aide Elizabeth designed the cookbooks, and the name “Memories,” was decided on by her and the residents. Local print shop, Shamrock Printing, made the design come to life. The cookbooks went on sale for a donation of five dollars apiece and raised over 600 dollars! With the money that was raised, the residents decided to give back. Half the money was given to one of our night shift STNA’s, Trisha, for her Pet Resort. The other half of the money was used to adopt two children from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree for Christmas.
One of the children was a 7-year-old boy who wanted a bike, board games, LED lights, and a science kit. The other was a 9-year-old girl who wanted a makeup and nail set, a bike, an ice cream maker, and winter weather attire including boots, a jacket, a hat, and gloves. Our activities director, Angela, helped bring these Christmas wishes to life and was able to drop off the donations on behalf of the residents to the Salvation Army. We are so thankful to have such caring and creative residents.
